Pick out a graphic designer or design group. Research carefully, this means writing, collecting photographs and where possible visiting and interviewing. You are then asked to write, design and produce a thesis on your chosen subject, minimum of 2000 words.
There is no restriction on size or colour but your design should be appropriate for the person or company chosen.
I selected London-originated design agency, Pentagram which has a world wide reputation for graphic, industrial and architectural design. My research consisted of writing to the company and reading a wealth of information supplied. The diversity and history of Pentagram's work (dating back to 1972) made for a rich discussion.
This was presented through an emulation of The Guardian newspaper which they were responsible for designing. My thesis took the form of editorials and 'articles', with full colour images to illustrate. I worked hard to find the right type of paper and dimension to give the work a 'newspaper' quality, visiting a number of local printers to achieve this result at full size.
