Project brief as given

You are required to produce a package design - or ideally a range of packaging - for a product which lends itself to an illustrative approach. Your solution to this project may be a re-design of an existing package or it may be for a totally fictitious product, but it must incorporate illustration.

Description of solution

I developed the idea to produce packaging for a ficticious brand of 'luxury' dinner-for-one takeaway meal. In particular, I chose a world cuisine which was presently uncommon - Japanese. I researched heavily Japanese recipies, cultural eating habits and Japanese art work as a basis for designing a product range.

The range consisted of a main course, themed bottled drink and desert. The main course packaging opens up to reveal a mat (made from cane), utensils, napkin & dishes (which would house frozen food within). I developed the title 'A Night in Japan', and produced an appropriate illustrative identity which could be shared across the range. I borrowed from Japanese illustrations the style and concepts to communicate the Japanese theme. The art work and package design work hand in hand to complete the 'dining' experience.
